Review of Holle Infant Formula 1

I am still primarily breastfeeding but my little angel eats a lot. She's 4 months and one week.
She's in the 75% percentile for weight. Sometimes I supplement her diet with organic pureed carrots. She loves them. At night, my back is killing me and I've spent all day caring for my little darling and sometimes I need a break.

Click here for Holle 1 birth-6 months
For those times I use Holle brand infant formula. I have tried several types of infant formula. She will sort of drink the premixed Similac but she doesn't really like it. I've tried Enfamil too. I've tried soy and sensitive stomach. Sometimes my little girl would cry when we tried to give her formula. She really hated it. I read good reviews of Holle brand infant formula from other moms and I decided to order some. It was $6.69 EUR That's about $9 US dollars. I also got her Holle 2 for six to 12 months. Shipping was about $15 dollars per box of formula. It was worth it. I wish I could find something of this quality in the United States. I have done lots of research and there is nothing of comparable quality in the US, not even organic formula. They also gave me two samples one organic grain porridge for 6 months and up and one organic rice porridge for 4 months and up. Unlike other formulas in the US, this has no added sugar! The milk comes from biodynamically raised cows. I can not find anything like it!

The very best part is my daughter loves it. She took it instantly and when the bottle was done she smiled at me! It smells much better than other formulas and it is 99% organic compared to other formulas in the US that are only 95% organic. I'm totally thrilled with this formula. She digested it very easily even though she had it for the very first time.

4/4 horseshoes! A great supplement to breast milk for tired mommies like myself.
Right now, I'm feeding it once a day and it seems to be working well for us. Worth the money!

That is the link for Holle 1.

Holle 1 is birth to 6 months and
Holle 2 is 6-12 months. The website is www.biologisch24.com.
I will also add this info to the post.

    Shipping is via DHL. Enjoy!

    1. Hello,
Why did you choose holle over hipp organic? Hipp has long chain polysaccharides and either prebiotic or probiotic that's missing in holle. I like your review and this link works for me.

      Delete
    2. My understanding is that HiPP is a major brand in Europe, kind of like Similac here. Similac offers organic here as well, doesn't mean it's great. HiPP adds DHA just like American formula. To get DHA you need to use hexane (a potential neurotoxin) to extract it from plant life. Holle doesn't add anything like that.

    4. I was able to obtain this formula and translate most of the instructions. But I was wondering if formula can be mixed and refrigerated then warmed at feeding time? Or can water be warmed to 50 degrees celcius instead of boiling and allowing to cool? Lastly, would it be harmful to mix formula with room temp. water when not at home and boiled water not available?

  3. Thank you Badpwny. This product goes through customs without a problem. On average how much is shipping? Also, how long does it typically take to get?

    Thanks,

I just tried, and the link still works for me.
If that doesn't work you can try buying from a different shop in Germany. Here's another link

It takes a long while to come in the mail.
I ordered a second box a few weeks ago and I'm still waiting for it but I haven't checked the progress on the package online, either. Shipping it isn't cheap but if enough people buy it, then maybe someone will decide to supply it in the US. Shipping the first box cost the most, and after that it is just another few Euros a box. It will tell you the cost of shipping before you checkout. It depends on where you live but it does come from overseas so it will cost at least $20 in shipping per order.

    1. Unfortunately, Violey no longer sells Holle stuff to the US customers. You can see the disclaimer on the Holle product pages. What a bummer! Anybody knows how I can still get Holle baby formula into US?

    3. Sorry for the late reply. My LO is 10 month old and she is on Baby's Only.

    4. I am CRUSHED. I just tried ordering more formula since we are running out and the German supplier (Violey) won't ship it to U.S. anymore so I tried my Australian supplier (bioliving) and they won't either. Thank you, U.S. government, for ruining the small chance us mothers had at giving our babies healthy formula. I'm at a loss. Don't know what to do now. Feel as though I can't have another baby in the U.S. now.

      Delete
    5. Don't despair yet! There still might be a way to get it. Do you know anyone in Germany who can buy some and sell it to you? I hear there are still some distributors in the US who sell it. I don't know who myself but I have seen people on here post about it. Write letters to the FDA and tell them you should be able to feed your baby whatever you want regardless of their politics! We need to have conversations with local law makers and have our voices heard on these issues that effect us and our children! We have the right to healthy food for us and for our kids.

  6. I stumbled onto your blog while researching baby formula. I have a 1 month old and unfortunately I have to supplement my breast milk with formula, but I read the ingredients in American commercial formula and I didn't like that there is so much sugar and corn and soy in them no matter which brand or kind. I thought there had to be something different out there, and that's when I found Holle. I've fed Formula 1 to my baby for about 2 weeks and he loves it and is growing beautifully on it. I decided to order more, but the shipment has been delayed by DHL for a while and there is no telling when I will receive it. So I emailed Holle and told them I think there is a demand for this product in the U.S. and I asked them why they don't sell it here even though it is available in MANY other countries. They wrote back and told me that the FDA won't allow them to sell it in the U.S. Maybe all the mommies in this country need to band together and demand that our government allow them to sell it here because I suspect the reason it isn't sold here is the strangle hold the soy and corn lobby and Monsanto have on our food supply. Our politicians are not doing what's best for our babies and we deserve better from our government. What can we do to fix this?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Wow, you are one educated mom! Good for you and your baby. That's where it begins. I have run into that problem with shipping before. It takes a little bit longer but it is worth the wait. It probably won't take more than another week though. I recommend ordering a little bit extra for each order and if you are on your last box it's probably time to order it again.

You have an excellent point. Monsanto is responsible for many problems in this country. They are responsible for making pesticides, bovine growth hormones, DDT, and even agent orange during Vietnam. The list goes on and on. They have plans to buy all the seeds on earth, genetically modify them and then sell them. Their genetically modified crops would only grow once and the seeds would be useless. 80% of farmers depend on the seeds from their crops so this would result in mass starvation. I saw this on a documentary called, "The Beautiful Truth." There are several other films on Monsanto and what they are doing to our country and this earth. I recommend that we try to boycott them as much as possible as well as raise awareness about who they are and what they are doing. We can start by passing this petition around.

Subject: Tell Obama to Cease FDA Ties to Monsanto

    Hi,

President Obama has appointed former Monsanto VP and lobbyist Michael Taylor to become senior advisor to the FDA's commissioner. This unthinkable linkage between food safety and corporate interests that have little regard for the public health must be stopped. This example of a "fox watching the henhouse" is inexcusable. President Obama must reverse this unimaginably dangerous policy and isolate the FDA from corporate influence.

That's why I signed a petition to President Barack Obama.

Will you sign this petition? Click here:

    http://signon.org/sign/tell-obama-to-cease-fda?source=s.em.cp&r_by=4585926

Please share this petition on your facebook page and tweet it to all of your friends. Other than that, what we really need is a whole marketing campaign aimed against Monsanto. I guess we can start by promoting that petition and some of these documentaries that educate people about them. Some of them are Food Inc., The World According to Monsanto, The Future of Food, Seeds of Deception, Sweet Misery: A Poisoned World, and Seeds of Destruction. The problem with these films is that they are too long. What we need is a short film that people can watch on Utube all over the world similar to the Kony 2012 film (maybe even shorter) without making a big deal about who is promoting and making the film so that the spotlight stays on the topic of Monsanto and their plans to further control the world's food.

  8. Hello! Thanks for all this great information! I am getting ready to order some Holle formula for my 7 month old and was curious if you know how long the shelf life is? I would just like to order as many boxes as possible to hopefully save on shipping costs, but obviously don't want it to go bad :) THANKS!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Yes, I have some that expire in July of 2013. I bought it a few months ago. So, they should last a little bit over a year from when you buy them. I wouldn't buy more than a 12 month supply for that reason. Also, once you open the package you should use it within 3 weeks. Holle 2 comes in two small packages so that it will last longer for this reason. Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  10. I read that the Holle 1 is 400g, do you know how many ounces of formula this will produce. I am trying to figure out how many holle 1 packages to order.

    ReplyDelete
  11. That's a good question. I am using Holle 2 now. 400 grams is about 14.1 ounces. I think that might last 6 or 7 days. The directions say to feed either 4 or 5 ounces 3x a day. Obviously, if the baby needs an extra feeding I would never make them go hungry. Every baby is different. Those are just guidelines. I think for Holle 1 is probably more like 4 ounces a feeding. That's just a guess. If I were you I'd order at least 4 or 5. Once you go through a whole package, you can figure out how long it lasts and order more from there.

  13. Thanks for the info! I so would like to order it , but I have concerns about it coming from so far away. For example, is the parcel irradiated during the international shipping process? I am also concerned with possible tampering during the whole customs process. Just want to be sure it's safe for the little one! Any thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Well I have purchased several and I have never had any problems. My little girl likes the taste and she is a very picky eater. I don't know if it is irradiated but I am fairly certain that would take extra time and money so it probably isn't. I believe they have a special label for irradiated foods. They would have to label it as such. I do not think you should be concerned about ordering it from a country that actually bans genetically modified foods as opposed to one that dares to put it into baby formula! Food is highly regulated there. There is no added sugar and it 99% organic. In the US, baby food here is 95% organic at best. Also, the USDA has allowed baby formula that has synthetic, lab-grown DHA in genetically modified corn to be labeled as organic. It is called, "Life's DHA" and it is in hundreds of products. It's very misleading. Furthermore, many babies have had bad reactions to this synthetic DHA. There are absolutely no studies showing that this synthetic DHA is good for your baby. It is nothing but an aggressive marketing technique tricking people into thinking that the formula is healthier than it really is. Almost all baby formula has this added DHA and the only company that uses DHA from a natural source is Baby's Only and they had a problem with arsenic in the organic brown rice they use in their formula. The following link has more details.

    http://www.naturalnews.com/034364_infant_formula_DHA_genetically_modified.html

I think the biggest problem with the Holle is that shipping it here takes several weeks.

    1. Just to echo this, be sure to avoid Brown Rice Syrup. At least until further study can be done:

      http://www.imperfectparent.com/topics/2012/02/16/organic-baby-formula-may-contain-high-levels-of-arsenic-says-study/

Before reading on, please note that having read the ingredients on the Holle box, it does not contain Brown Rice Syrup. It must be another Holle product they call out below.

"Last year, European researchers found that many organic baby food items and organic baby formula contained up to 150 times the amount of ‘toxic load’ as breastmilk. Some of the European culprits included Organix, Hipp Organic, Nestle and Holle Organic. Researchers in the U.S. say it’s any baby product with brown rice syrup listed as the main ingredient."

    2. Hi Adam,

Thanks for the heads up! For those who haven't heard, a recent study discovered high arsenic levels in rice and rice products.

Luckily the Holle baby formula doesn't contain any added sugars therefore it's free of any brown rice syrups.

  16. I just started using Holle formula and was wondering if I can mix it in advance (say in the morning - enough for the day). The package specifically says not to make in advance :/

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm glad to hear you gave the formula a try! Breast is always best, but this is a good substitute. I know it can be frustrating to make up the formula every time your baby gets hungry. The problem with making it in advance is that fresh food usually has higher nutritional value. Another problem is that bacteria grows rather quickly in formula, especially after the baby has had a sip. (The bacteria that began in the baby's mouth multiplies in the bottle.) When the baby is nursing, all of the milk is made instantly. When you give your baby a bottle, ideally, it should be used immediately. I try to never give my baby any formula that is over 15 or 20 minutes old. It is just not worth the risk. Plus, you want your baby to get the optimal nutrition from this formula. I was under the impression that all formulas had these instructions. I think that our society revolves around processed, prepackaged foods. Normal food should be fresh and organic foods that have a limited shelf life. You have already gone through all the trouble of ordering the organic formula from overseas, you might as well serve it fresh! Your baby deserves it! =)

I can understand how this might be hard for today's working moms. Here is a tip. What you can do is take the baby's bottles and add some of the dried formula, for the desired amount. Once you have sealed it in the bottle, later you can add the correct amount of water. There are a few different ways you can do this. This is just a suggestion to help you find a system that works for you. You can set aside the correct amount of water to add later in a bottle that is labeled with your baby's name or you can just keep an extra baby bottle or measuring cup at work. That way you would still be making it fresh, and it might be a little bit easier. Good luck! On really hot summer days, I can get my baby to drink this formula at room temperature. The rest of the time, we heat it up in a bottle warmer and then test it on the wrist before feeding.

  18. Does anybody know what the formula to water ratio is? The distributor I purchased this from said it was a 1 scoop to 1 ounce of water ratio. This seems like a lot of formula. My box is in a foreign language. Please help! Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I was waiting for someone to ask this. If I didn't know people who spoke the language, I'd be lost too. You are so lucky you found a distributor! What region of the country do you live in? The instructions are probably in German. It depends on how old your baby is. How many months is he/she? Normally, the ratio is 1 scoop to 1 ounce unless your baby is an infant. I think the ratio might be slightly less for very young babies and infants. If there is a way you can take a picture of it and send it to me or post it, I can have my friend try and translate it. I don't have a box of Holle 1 around, just Holle 2. If your baby is under 3 months, I would try to find a way to check the directions on the box because it could be slightly less. Try to post it here and I'll see what I can do. It will say ratios for different age ranges. I hope this helped at least a little!

  20. Turns out I have 13 boxes of Holle Infant Formula 1 to sell if anyone is interested. I bought each box for close to $30.00, plus shipping costs in the US, and it turns out that my baby is apparently allergic or intolerant to milk protein (not just Holle, but other formulas as well) and she can't handle any milk proteins that aren't broken down (at least for now). I thought about keeping the boxes in case she gets over the allergy/intolerance (this happens in at least 1/2 of the cases from what I read). The problem is by the time she may or may not get over her issue, she would actually need Holle Infant Formula 2, so there's no point in keeping the boxes. I originally ordered 14 boxes of Holle -- I tried 1 box with my baby, and I really liked the quality of the formula and she really seemed to like the taste (which is why this is such a shame). I am willing to sell the 13 remaining boxes for $18 a piece + whatever shipping is. It would be easier to sell all 13 boxes to the same person, but I realize that it may not work out that way. Please let me know if you are interested.

  26. Thank you SO MUCH for the reference to biologisch24 site. Up until now I had a friend buying this formula for me in France and shipping it. This is so much easier.
This is an absolutely wonderful product and stands in such stark difference to the US made organic formulas. No added sugars or synthetics, and it tastes great. My 6mo old son had been getting this as a suppliment for a month and absolutely loves it.
By the way, there is a seller on Amazon called Epicerie Fine that has stages 1-3 periodically. They seem to have Stage 4 consistently.

  33. Generally, it is one scoop for every ounce. You might want to double check the dosage for newborns though, I have a feeling it is slightly different in the first 3 months. 1. Good question. While I'm not familar with the Holle product, I work as a technician, and can help shed some light on your question.

Badpwny says she buys it from biologisch24.com.

So I did a lookup on the domain:
      http://whois.domaintools.com/biologisch24.com

It shows the domain as being registered to Ralf-Peter Dust in Germany. Holle is manufactured in Germany, so this angle seems to check out. But just because the domain is registered to someone in Germany doesn't mean the server that powers the website is in Germany.

So running a ping shows the ip address to be: 89.146.193.34

Then I ran a trace on the IP address:
      http://www.iptrackeronline.com/index.php?ip_address=89.146.193.34

It shows the server is based in Germany. So this angle checks out as well.

While I can't guarantee anything, I can tell you from a technical perspective that the storefront is definitely in Germany. I provided the website links above so you can see the evidence for yourself.

  38. I am so glad I found this website!! I am unable to breastfeed and have decided to use this formula for my baby who will be here in March. I figured that for the stage 1 formula, it's 1 part water to 1 scoop of formula.. What I am confused about is that the package comes with 400grams of formula, which I'm figuring is about 14 ounces. I have seen several people say that each box lasts about 4-5 days, but if it's only 14 ounces, and the chart says 6-7 meals per day at 3 ounces per feeding, I'm not understanding how 14 ounces of formula (one box) would last more than a day? Can someone please help me out here? I've started to order some formula already since the wait is so long to get to the U.S. and I'm trying to figure out an estimate of how many boxes I will need per month for at least the first few months.

    1. hi Maricela, each Stage 1 box makes about 100oz of milk.

Each spoon is approximately 4.4g, with water added, it makes approximately 33.3 ml (or a little over 1 oz) of milk.

      100 ml = approximately 3 oz

    2. Thank you so much for clarifying that for me! That's a big difference from what I was calculating! =)

  40. Hello! I've been selling Holle on Amazon for a few months. I discovered there was a high demand after my wife and I had trouble getting it for our now 5 month old boy. Amazon just told me to cease all sales because of the FDA. I'm not a business per se (just a first time dad looking to make a little extra diaper money!), but I feel like people need to be able to get this in the USA. If anyone would like to place an order, I can *usually* get it from Germany within 2 weeks of ordering (depending on customs). Usually stage 1 goes for $30 plus shipping, stage 2 is $40 (it's 600g not 400g like stage 1). Anyone interested, let me know. I'm at msginicola at gmail.com. I know internet ordering can be shady, but I'd have to take paypal payment before I place an order(I'm under "Ginicola Family" as an Amazon seller). This is the best we can do until the FDA wakes up. :(

  41. Greetings all.

While researching formula, I found the reviews on this website, which helped to convince us to give Holle a try. While on vacation, we picked up a few boxes of Holle Formula 1 [UK]. We were excited to give it to our daughter. Unfortunately, we discovered that our daughter has a diary allegy. ["For children who are cow milk intolerant or who have an increased allergy risk, a specialised nourishment is required and Holle Organic Infant Formula 1 is not recommended."]

Therefore we have several unopened boxes.

I am not trying to steal Mike G.'s thunder but I would prefer to sell these boxes vs. discarding them.

Feel free to contact me if interested. wsilk1 at yahoo dot com.

    Thank you for your time.

  46. Hi all! So glad I found this but bummed that amazon is not allowing the sale of this item. I want to order 17 boxes of HOLLE 2 to finish out my 7.5 month old baby. Does anyone have one I can buy so we can see if our little guy likes it? He is rather particular and he hates enfamil but likes similac for taste. Also, is my math right? He drinks about 25 oz a day so I was estimating one box at 600 g per week? Thank you! Us parents really need to ban together to help one another do the best for our children! Did anyone taste this btw? How is it? Is it like any formulas out there?

    1. I don't boil the water at all. I have a reverse osmosis system, so I think my water is ok. I just warm the water (don't measure the temp either) and then put in the formula.

      Delete
    2. Oh! I read somewhere even filtered water should be boiled first for infants so I do even though we also have reverse osmosis. Do you guys know how it tastes compared to other formulas in the market? Thanks!

      Delete
    3. From what I have read the reason to boil the water is not necessarily to treat the water as I also initially thought. The key piece is that it also serves to help kill harmful microorganisms that may be present in the formula! We try as often as we can to prepare our formula with at least a 1/4 of the water being hot and then top off with room temp water to bring back down to a temp tolerable for drinking. I know this is difficult for the parents on the go and makes for some tough choices. That said I hope this info helps to answer questions.

  53. Hi fellow Holle buyers. Thank you so much for the interested responses in buying our remainder Holle 1 formula. Unfortunately we have sold all 18 boxes. we have just purchased more of the Holle 2 and if we have any left over we will be posting it for sale on here in the future. We just ordered it on Monday so I will post how long it takes for us to receive it. We sold our holle 1 for 13 dollars each box. There really isn't any reason to have to pay more unless you are trying to make a profit or if you actually paid more for it. Some websites such as amazon (which doesn't sell it anymore) or Violey ( which I'm pretty also does not sell it anymore) were more expensive. We used the www.biologisch24.com to order ours which came out to about $13. This was including shipping. Their site is pretty good however it does take a month or even a little over a month to get to us. One of our shipments was incomplete by 12 boxes but after contacting the company and taking pictures of the boxes we did receive a quick response and they credited us back. Their shipping is based on the weight so it all just depends on how much you buy. Basically if your going to be spending that much you might as well buy enough formula and whatever else such as cereal, porridges, etc. They did include some small free samples as well. The tracking service is not straight forward as you will need to navigate to the German site and typically no more information is posted after it enters the USA. So after you know its in the USA you are pretty much waiting until it clears customs, I think. I hope this helps. If anyone has any questions for me just leave a post.

    1. Yes, absolutely (we always test before feeding new things to our baby). This is just like any other US formula, a powder that can be mixed with any room temp water. But a lot of folks feel safer boiling the water first.

  66. Just wondering what your thoughts are of Baby's Only Organic Dairy Formula by Nature's One? Has anybody done any research about it? Thanks. On Nature's One's website it states that "Parents should be aware that other organic formulas use less desirable ingredients like organic corn syrup (also called glucose syrup)..." which is one of the components in Holle 1 formula according to what's on the Violey website "Organic starch and maltodextrin derived from corn make the Organic Infant Formula 1 creamy and filling." Anyway, Holle 1 at Violey is cheaper by 1Euro than at Biologisch.

  67. Yes, I know about Baby's Only. They use organic brown rice syrup which has tested to be high in arsenic. I think it's best to avoid using it.

As far as I know, Holle is sugar free. If you disagree, please post a picture of the ingredients on the box and circle the ingredient in question.

I ordered enough to finish my son through his first birthday and in my opinion, gambled, but I was fortunate and got it so fast! I have heard from others that they didn't receive some orders or they arrived damaged...I don't think violet ships to the states...

  69. I order from a amazon seller that for know is out but I have their number for future reorder.
I also bought a large quantities of stage 1 that I will post if I end up with any left. Same for stage 2 but I strongly suggest that every parent should the most they can to buy holle and not give any other formula.
spend your money wisely save up to buy lots of boxes since is very expensive to have it shipped from Germany.
My baby had some earth's best which really it is not the best it gave a rash on her checks and greenie poopy eww nit stinky which wasn't bad, I bought holle, and it all dissapear her rash was clearing out and it was a nice yellow pasty poopie which had not bad stink at all and same for the fomula.

I ran out of it I had to buy similac which was available anywhere since I'm still waiting for the formula to arrive always have holle or you will regret not having it.

Oh my the rash is back and not nice her poopy stinks ewww even her gas which she seems to have more and the formula smells rotten after 30 mins even less ewww hate it.

biologist shop is the place to get it, I recommend that is bought in advanced as well since it takes 2 weeks the very least and as much as you can, buy their poridges too and the tea everything is amazing, the baby cereals also contain DHA all of them so you can get away from it unless you buy holle.

    1. I read this article a while back while looking at different types of formula, I wish it could be a little more accurate as HOLLE never ever used brown rice syrup in their formula, As a matter of fact we contacted them about it and they had replied right away with a great answer : that they did not believe in this ingredient in babies formula and that is was unfortunate they were amongst the only one not to use it. So no worry about Holle, however many other so call healthy companies use the brown rice syrup.
here is the ingredients list for stage 1 below for you, hope that helps!

Skimmed milk**, whey powder* partly demineralised, vegetable oils* (palm oil*, rapeseed oil*, sunflower oil*), maltodextrin*, calcium carbonate, potassium chloride, sodium chloride, vitamin C, vitamin E, ferrous lactate, zinc sulphate, niacin, Calcium-D-pantothenate, copper sulphate, vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B6, manganese sulphate, vitamin B2, potassium iodate, folic acid, vitamin K, sodium selenate, vitamin D

    2. thanks alot! i did also find the ingredients online. You'd think they would do some research before writing an article that can erroneously damage a co's reputation.

    3. Your welcome!
As parents this is a good example to realize that self publishers can write anything they want without checking all the facts, it can be very inaccurate sometimes. I'm sure the error wasn't purposely intended but was more a lack of research's. It is true that Finding a formula without rice syrup can be difficult these days :(
Holle seemed to know about the article and having never used rice syrup in their formula since the co opened in 1933, they felt confident people would see thru.

  78. Hello to all!

I decided to post a little something regarding our wonderful Holle experience, but first of all thank you to the creator of this blog, I know it helped us and other people out there.

We are now on the Holle stage 3 formula, started using stage 1 when our baby was 2 months old, from the moment we started we couldn't have been be happier about all the wonderful things it did! baby started to sleep much better, be happier, eczema going away etc... it was a big wake up call compare to what was out there! Some of our friends also experienced amazing stuff, no more constipation issues etc...

At the beginning we directly ordered the milk from overseas, but my gosh.... had so many issues!!! Between never knowing when the formula was shipped, totally unresponsive customer service, receiving a hefty bill from import customs later on, to find savagely opened packets to check content etc... we ended up wasting a big junk of money! (one time 4 pouches had been opened!) so we decided to look other places instead. I know everybody hasn't had issues but this has been our experience. We decided to get it another way and have someone else deal with this hassle! Lol

If you are looking for a fast delivery (of any of the 4 stages available) and wonderful customer service I would recommend emailing Frenchepicerie@yahoo.com. We have been customers for months now, they are exceptional and parents too, we usually get the package in a couple of days, + they also carry the cereals range etc... which is a great ad on for older babies, they are very reliable so we don't feel stress about our supply any longer, we can't say enough on how happy we are and can always count on it.

I hope this help other people, Holle is a wonderful formula (in business since 1933), like nothing else you could ever find here. Regardless on how other big brands want to market it Milk should be the first ingredient! Not sweeteners, rice syrup or else, this is unacceptable! I surely hope they realize this and change someday.

    Thanks to everyone.

We were referred to them by a good friend of ours, they used their services for their baby girl, from newborn till she was about 16 months old, so they basically used all stages 1 thru 4.
They are based in the states which made the entire process a breeze. I wish we had known of them sooner Frenchepicerie@yahoo.com) cause I admit it... we were about done importing it due to all the issues we encountered.
Hope you give it a try! its such a wonderful formula.

  80. Hello,

Does anyone have any Holle infant formula #1 that they would be willing to sell for a decent price? I have been buying from biologisch but my last order (which was placed on May 9th) still has not shipped. I also noticed that they don't have this formula in stock right now so I don't know how soon it will ship. We still have about 4-5 boxes left but are worried we might run out before our new order is filled. Our latest order (combination of #1 and #2 formula averaged us about $15 a box.) Our previous orders from biologisch of Holle #1 averaged about $11 box. I know the #2 is more expensive and this could be why this latest order was more expensive.

Anyways, if someone has some to spare, preferably #1 but #2 will do, please email me rotaryrevn@yahoo.com.

If we don't get our shipment in time we will most likely just use some baby's only that we already have but we prefer not to as it constipates our baby.

    Thanks

  81. Who would have thought there would need to be a black market for organic baby food? I am completely shocked that parents in the USA have to go to such lengths in order to get this formula for your babies! I am in Australia, no such trouble here, I've been feeding Bellamy's Organic Formula to my Bub as she can't breast feed (due to cleft palate) and I'm not expressing enough milk to satisfy her, Bellamy's gives her tummy upset (so it seems to me) so I am going to try Holle.

Is there any website you can order through? like www.reship.com this is what we use here if we want to buy something from the USA but the company doesn't ship to Australia, just a thought! Best wishes to all of you.

  82. Just a quick update on my post. Biologish24 did get more Holle#1 in. As soon as #2 comes in, my order will ship.

In the mean time, I found a new company that ships to the USA! Great news for everyone I think. It is called Superfooduk. Website is http://www.superfooduk.com/

I ordered 10 boxes of Holle #1 and it averaged $15 a box including shipping. Not bad at all compared to what the sellers in the US usually ask. Still a few dollars more than Biologish though.

    1. Oh Yeah, here is the best part. My order from SuperfoodUK shipped the following day after ordering. I have a feeling my order from Biologish and SuperfoodUK will arrive at about the same time now and I will end up with more #1 than I need. I'll just sell off any extra #1 when that happens.

    3. Hi Anjelcirly,

I think I will surely have some extra boxes of #1. Once the Biolosh24 shipment arrives, I will be happy to give you first chance at my boxes of #1. We have to figure out how many we will have extra. I will email you once that happens.

Ok, GREAT Update for everyone. We received our Holle infant #1 from SuperoodUK already! Unbelievable. I went back and checked when I ordered this. It was delivered in just 7 days following my order! Talk about fast delivery. Another great benefit is that the boxes are 100% in ENGLISH!

My shipment was sent in 4 boxes. All of the boxes of infant formula were perfect! Nothing opened, no crushed boxes. I am 100% happy with superfood UK and wouldn't hesitate to use them again. (BTW, superfooduk has over 3k positive feedback rating on ebay. Don't buy through ebay though as it will charge like $9 per box for shipping and in the end, the price is like double what you would pay going direct thru their website).

Biolosh24 also has my order of #1 and #2 coming in 2 different shipments now. Looks like they sent out #1 when the new stock came in, and sent out #2 as soon as that came in.

I wouldn't hesitate to use either of those 2 companies. The trick is to buy a lot of formula at once to save on the shipping and make your average per box very cheap.

BTW, with both Biologish24 and SuperfoodUK, I can never seem to get my credit cards to work so I just pay with paypal.

**If anyone wants a photo of the #1 box in English, feel free to email me @ rotaryrevn@yahoo.com. Just put Holle in the title. Even though Biologish24 is a few dollars cheaper, I almost want to order some #2 from Superfooduk now so I can have an engish version of that box as well.**

    4. BTW, I'm in the USA and never had any problems with Customs opening any of my shipments. The other poster that had customs open their boxes seems to be in another country so if you are in that country, beware.

      Delete
    5. Ok, after some careful thought....lol If I had to pick which company to use as first choice, I would probably go with Biologish as #1. This is because there total price shipped for formula is cheaper.... also they do have better packaging. If you order in groups of 6, they will ship in the original Holle boxes put inside another outer shipping box.

Superfood UK only has one shipping box holding the smaller individual boxes so Biologish24's shipping boxes are more secure (even though Superfood UK's are fine, just not double boxed like Biologish24).

If you can wait 4-5 weeks for your formula, try Biologish24, if you want your formula in 1-2 weeks (mine arrived in 7 days), try SuperfoodUK.

Superfood UK really saved us this time though as we dreaded having to go back to Baby's Only. It really constipates our baby and is really sweet compared to Holle (I tasted them both).

    6. Not sure why someone thought I was in another country but I'm very well in the states! after all, this blog is mostly for parents in the usa like us!

Customs used to open our packages from both Biologish24 and superfood about 50% of the time.
In the Last shipment we received, we had 3 boxes trashed and unusable, loss was about $54!

Right now we are getting stage 1 from the states at only $20 per box! (just $2 extra than those 2 european sites sell it for) and we even get free 48h shipping if we take a good quantity! so you do the math! At the end it made more sens to us to get it from here directly, a couple of $ extra up front but better deal at the end as we didn't end throwing away any boxes.

I just want parents to know the good and bad of buying overseas, this is our 2nd and 3rd babies on Holle so we tried it all on the first one!lol BTW we still have a claim with Biologish24 about an order we never received. This one had totally been refused at customs! (not very common) we are still waiting for a refund but are not getting any reply from them, its a shame they do not communicate with customers.

If the price is right and you can get it from here, I would not recommend purchasing overseas, what a hassle it is for so little difference or sometimes even more money spent if boxes do get opened.
Oh for previous questions, I can be reached at : Marie_thompson75@yahoo.com

  84. We have to agree with a previous post as we have already ordered from superfooduk in the past.
Except never getting replies to our mails or concerns, service was fair, price was closer to the $20 range for us thou, British pound and dollars exchanges rate varies all the time which can be tricky sometimes, you have to calculate before etc... For some reason our bank also charged us a $19 international flat fee, it was weird and probably depending on the bank and what you use to pay with.

Anyway pass the awful customer service the issue for us was : packages being repetitively opened at customs. I wish there was a way to post pictures on the blog as it pretty much looks like somebody stuffed large fire crackers inside some formula bags till implosion! they don't mess around when inspecting packages!, A real mess, formula everywhere, having to find which one is which etc.. last time we had more than 3 boxes opened I think, we had to throw in the trash.

So after a few tries, the few dollars saved simply didn't ad up, now we order from a supplier here directly, its fast, easy, get response in less than 2h and always know when our package has shipped etc... Also if something happens and usps looses it or it get damaged during transit they send us another one immediately no questions ask!

Definitely worth the few extra dollars to us, we are both working parents and simply don't have time to spend making sure those websites are doing their job right, washing the powder off the formula bags, calling at 3am in the morning to check on orders status etc... We have also found the formula at superfood being a little older than the one we are getting now.

Anyway all in all we love this formula! For us it's a blessing we can also get it from here directly.

  85. I've had the worst experience with ordering this formula:( .. Ordered 3 boxes from biologisch24..They shipped it on April 24 and I still haven't received it..It will be 6 weeks tomorrow!!! I ordered from superfood and hoping it will come sooner, even thought they don't reply to my email.. I am so disappointed. Does anyone know of a safe, fast delivering website thats not too expensive?

    ReplyDelete
  86. Dear Lyuba,
I'm sorry to learn we weren't the only victims of biologich24 terrible follow up and poor customer appreciation. I wonder if your order ever got shipped? I mean we are in 2013 and packages only take about a week to come here these days, not 6 weeks!

I would try emailing frenchepicerie@yahoo.com, this is where we're getting ours now, very fast service and they will work with you for pricing, they really seem to care, what a change it is from ordering overseas! I was put off very quickly by those European websites, the human relation and contact is not present. Not thank you for constantly having to switch back to a bad formula because packages never arrived on time.

    1. Lyuba,

If your referring to the USPS tracking number reading "Origin Post is Preparing Shipment", mine stayed in that status about 4-7 days if I remember correctly. I think this is when they are waiting for it to clear customs. Don't worry too much, you will get your shipment I'm sure. I have ordered from Biologish24 a few times and always got my order. With Biologish24, you will need to sign to take delivery.

I don't know how Superfooduk sends it but it comes quick. One thing though could be good or bad depending on your circumstance but with Superfood, they just left it on my doorstep (which works out good for us).

For others, the way you track your Biologish24 shipment is log into your account and get the dispatched id number. copy that. Then click the small DHL link on the lower right side. When the DHL window opens up, paste your dispatch number there. That will track it until it enters the USA. Once in the USA, on the DHL page, you will see another number that probably starts with a "CL", copy that number and paste it into the USPS website tracking.

      Delete
    2. yes the USPS tracking says that..It's just that it has been so long now..Over 6 weeks. What also worries me is that they didnt reply to my last email.. I actually wrote them twice and got nothing

      Delete
  88. I think this is unacceptable, either the package was never sent and you're in the same situation as we're in now or items were not in stock when purchased and they're awaiting for their shipment to send you the package. That's why we could never be sure when formula was going to arrive! Either way this is not a way to do business, we also cant get a hold of them, I would tell them to stop selling here if they cant offer customer service. We opened a claim with American express and should have an answer within 30 days. You might want to take action now so its doesn't drag on for weeks.

  91. Well thats interesting because we are still waiting for our order from superfooduk placed and paid 2 weeks ago! I wonder why you received yours first, it worries me a bit now. of course we never get replies to our emails either! We were happy to find this new source but all the same as biolo for now!
Does anyone know of a good holle source in the states they've used? Fed up of the importing process and now willing to pay more for good, faster and kinder service!
    Thanks, Jessica

    ReplyDelete
  92. Hey Jessica!

I think you should try emailing FrenchEpicerie@yahoo.com
We also used to order from overseas but had so many issues we now order thru them in the states, they are amazing and go above and beyond the call of duty! Above having reasonable prices and same day shipping, service is top notch! And everyone I know that have been using them for months has never had a single issue, 3 other moms on my street. + it feels good to support and deal with people that really care for once. Many times they even sent the formula before us making the payment! just so it arrived on time and we didn't run out, that is exceptional.

I can't say enough about finding a good and RELIABLE source, especially if you are just starting with a newborn, it makes all the difference, we were always struggling to get a delivery date when ordering from Germany etc... and could never get a reply, sometimes packages said shipped when it wasn't!
You can call or email Frenchepicerie@yahoo.com any day of the week and get a reply within the same hour! For any questions related to your order or not.

We always used to struggle to find a formula replacement because package had not arrived on time so ultimately our baby was paying the price, I cant even start counting how many hours we spent emailing, calling, scrambling when used to order from overseas, and all this time spent, wasted, did cost us lot of money! Differently not worth the few extra $ saved.
    Hope that helps!

  93. For those who have ordered through biologish or superfood, have you incurred any costs other than what you paid for the product and shipping (e.g., customs fees, taxes, etc.)?

    ReplyDelete
  94. yes a couple of times we had to pay the customs fee, not sure how they decide who gets to pay it, if there is a key $ amount or else, it's very confusing to say the least!
I think the bill was about 20% of the formula price, non negligible! but they had also opened 1 pouch to check content so this was also lost.

    Holle stage 2 600g - 16 boxes, expiration 05.25.2014 - $18.00 Each
    Holle stage 3 600g -23 boxes, expiration 08.25.2014 - $18.00 Each
    Holle stage 4 600g -22 boxes, expiration 08.26.2014 - $18.00 Each
Depend on how many you need I will calculate the lowest shipping possible. The formula is new, never opened, factory sealed and not irridated at US customs.

    I accept paypal only.

I will ship the next day after cleared payment, so you would receive it as soon as possible.

  100. Jessica, and anyone else who's ordered from Biologisch: Can I ask you how many packs did you order from them? I'm preparing to pay the 20% of the price on customs but would like to have an idea of the size or your shipment so I don't have any bad surprises.

Also, how does the formula come packaged inside the box? Because I saw some #1 boxes which is what i need being sold on ebay, but they come without the box and I really don't want to risk anyone tampering with the formula.

    Thanks!

  101. Hi, for those of you who ordered from SuperfoodUK, did you select "rest of the world" as shipping method? coz once I selected that option, my 16 boxes of Holle (order total $131) became $232, which is almost twice as much as my order. Thanks!!

  102. Hi Everyone,

I bought 10 boxes of Formula 2 from Biologish24 but it got here so late - almost 1.5 months and my son was already 11.5 months so I am estimating we will only be able to finish about 6 boxes. I want to sell the other 4. I paid $191 for 10 boxes, so I am selling 4 boxes for $75. I think I can squeeze in 4 boxes in priority shipping box, which is an additional $12. Let me know if anyone is interested erikawuli@gmail.com.

  103. Just thought I'd follow up on previous posts about customs opening packages from Biologisch. I have found this to be true. So far, we've placed 3 orders with them and only had one experience where customs had opened the package, made slits on the cereal boxes which caused it to leak everywhere. My most recent order in May however, had no problems. We were in the process of moving when we had that one bad experience so I didn't have the time to contact customs or Biologisch about the matter. Only 2 or 3 of the cereal boxes were tempered with, the formula was untouched so I didn't think it was all that important to make a fuss.

Anyway, my LO is now 15 months and for the past few weeks, we've been doing 50/50 formula and raw milk for her with no problems. We are a raw milk family, and my LO has never had any problems digesting it (except for the 1st feeding, where she had one runny diaper and that was it). We get our milk from a very reputable farm in PA with pastured cows and strictly monitored hygenic standards. I am most likely going to turn her to 100% regular milk pretty soon so I have 2 brand new unopened Holle 3 boxes (10 months and up) that I will need to sell. Expiration date is in August 2014, if you email me I can give you the exact date.

sarahvcooney at gmail dot com is my email. Drop me a line if interested. I am in NY and will ship to anywhere in the US.

ps. Some English boxes will show Holle 3 as being 12 months and up but the ones in German from Biologisch I have found to always be 10 months and up.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I bought the english version that is Holle 3 (12mths up) and the smell is different from Holle 4 german version.

Holle 4 german has a stronger milk smell (12 mths up).

Any idea if there is any difference in ingredients?

  106. Hi, When shipping from abroad to the US, how do you know that the formula wasn't irradiated?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I can only speak from my experience ordering from Biologisch24.com. They place a sticker on the outside of the box that states, "PLEASE DO NOT IRRADIATE! ORGANIC BABY FOOD." I have no way of knowing if that sticker is complied with, but I can tell you that the box was not opened at all. Given that, and given that the package comes through the mail and not as cargo (most foodstuff irradiated needs to be delivered to a processing facility near a port of entry), I HIGHLY doubt that it has been irradiated. As a matter of fact, the USPS only irradiates certain mail destined for specific offices in Washington, D.C.

This irradiation concern, like many other concerns raised on this page, is significantly over-blown. I have had nothing but good experiences ordering from Biologisch24.com and I plan to post a full account of that experience. In that posting, I plan to offer my rebuttal to what I consider to be misinformation and subtle fear tactics present in many of the comments on this page.

  107. Hmm...most of the orders we send to America never seems to be that delayed. We are from Australia though and express orders are usually 3 days. Postage does cost a bit though which we feel bad for the parents but we are negotiating discounts with the PO, hopefully that will help a little. Flabbergasted though that America's infant formula is so bad.

  108. Just wanted to chime in on the SuperFoodDuke shipping costs - just tried to buy a couple boxes and they wanted to charge me $106 to ship $25 worth of product. Ordered two boxes from BioShop to try out and they only charged me $35 on $18 worth of product. I was going to order from both and see how they compared but not at that price! Will be emailing a couple other suppliers listed here for comparison instead.

  110. Hello everyone. I will start by saying that our son was breastfed until he was 11 weeks old. At that point, it was time for me to go back to work full time. We switched him to formula and with extensive research, we chose Holle Infant Formula. He has now been on formula for 9 weeks. We purchased the formula through SuperfoodUK. I have had a pleasant experience with SuperfoodUK. The only set back is that we pay more for shipping than the actual formula, but that is understandable seeing that it is coming from overseas (we live in the United States). After reading some of the posts on this blog I find myself concerned. As people from the US know, our customs are very strict. The first time we received my package from SuperfoodUK everything seemed OK. Nothing was opened and the packaging was intact. However, the second time we received our package we received a nice letter from customs apologizing for any damage that might have been incurred to our package. After examination, I found the boxes to be crushed on the outside and the actual formula bags to be closed and intact. My concern now is, as previous individuals have stated, that the packaged were x-rayed or irradiated. My question is, could this be harmful to our baby? What would the irradiation do? I am upset over the fact that we tried very hard to provide the best for our LO, yet may have fallen short due to customs scanning of packages. Does anyone have any input on this issue?

  111. Hi All - Just received my first 2 boxes of Holle Formula 2 from Little Organics, and although the shipping was costly from Australia, I highly recommend them! They were very helpful and product came in less than a week. I am hoping someone can help answer a couple questions I have. It appears that the ratio is 1 included scoop per ounce of water? Looks like for a "max" of 24 ounces a day according to the box?

I currently (hoping to switch to Holle tomorrow) feed my 8.5 month old 2 x 6 oz bottles per day + 3 x 4 oz bottles per day (those meals are also supplemented with solids). Can I assume I can continue this same schedule and dosage but swap for Holle?

Lastly, I think I read somewhere that if using bottled water (I use Poland Springs), it is perfectly fine to mix up the formula with room temp water, and heat in bottle warmer? Does anyone do this?

    Thanks in advance!

  113. Hi Shauna,
I find that if I refrigerate previously boiled water (in a sterilized bottle) and then mix that with freshly boiled water, when I need to prepare formula, I don't need to worry about heating up or cooling down bottles of formula. I don't leave it in the fridge for more than a day.

I bought my first box of Holle formula today and look fwd to trying it out tomorrow. I will just continue the schedule I have now:
    - at 8.5 months it was 8 ounces, 4 times a day
    - he is now 10 months and have swapped the afternoon feed for a solid snack (piece of fruit or biscuit) (3 milk feeds a day)
I agree, one included scoop for one ounce.
Max 24 ounces, see how your little one goes, my LO doesn't always finish the full milk feed, and if I feel he's had enough that's fine.
Hope this helps & I hope it is easier to come by in the US soon.

  114. Hello everyone. My daughter has been on Holle formula since she was 3 months old. Now at 21 months she still have Holle twice a day. She refuse to drink any other milk. I've tried to give her raw organic milk, even pasteurized organic milk, but she won't take it. The reason why I still give her the milk is that I am giving her krill oil, and since I don't give her any juices only water to drink, the formula is the only way I can mask the taste of the krill oil. She is a bad eater as well, so I don't have much choices.... Anyway, my question is does anyone noticed on the label for Holle 3 and 4, in the list of vitamins added, there is a one name "Fluorid". Does anyone know if this is by any chance Fluoride? I am so bumped about this discovery, and I just want to confirm with someone... I hope I'm wrong...

    1. Hi Gabriela,
I recently started my 9 month old on Holle, and became concerned after receiving the box initially and learning there was fluoride. I did some research, and it appears that there is no ADDED fluoride to the Holle, rather, trace amounts that are found in the organic raised cows that supply the milk, just like there are trace amounts of many elements in food we eat, from the soil.

Hope this helps you feel better!

      Delete
    2. Hi Shauna,
Thank you for your reply. That's what I was thinking.... but then I noticed that there are different amounts of it in level 3 (0.04/100g) vs level 4 (0.02/100g)... I know that those are very small amounts, but I was just concerned. Thanks. I no longer have boxes of level 1 or 2, but I was wondering what are the levels in those?

      Delete
    3. Hello,
Level 2 has .03/100g it looks like (this box is in German). I was concerned as well, so understandable! But, yes, looks like very small trace amounts from the natural elements.
